I asked five questions in genetics class today and all of them started with the word sorry.
This video of poet Lily Myers performing went viral last year. If you haven’t seen it already, do check it out.
I thought of it again today when Anjali shared the Pantene video which asks why women are always apologising.
I do this a lot, and I’ve noticed other women do as well. We always start sentences with an apology, when making simple requests, asking for information, or even just in place of “excuse me”. And I wonder what we’re even apologising for.
I’m usually cynical of soft ads by companies (I’m looking at you, Dove) that are designed to tug your heartstrings and get you to buy more soap/shampoo/waxstrips/sanitary napkins. But this one hit home for me. So, here’s to not being sorry!
